A wind power facility with an electricity generating capacity of more than 10 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) a year was put into full-capacity production and connected to the grid in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Sunday, and is the country's largest onshore wind power base currently in operation.
This is the first wind power project in China's largest “Desert, Gobi, and Barren Land” Energy Base. The total investment of the wind power project is approximately 12 billion yuan. It is the first GW-level wind power project in the Ningxia Tengger "Desert, Gobi, and Barren Land" Energy Base. Its construction is expected to start within the year.
On April 26th, CHN Energy's 2.5 GW Wind Power Base Project in Ningxia Tengger “Desert, Gobi, and Barren Land” area, covering Guyuan City, Hongsibao District of Wuzhong City and Haiyuan County, was approved and is about to enter the construction phase.
The second phase kicked off construction on Tuesday in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, said its operator China Energy Investment Corp, or China Energy.
Once completed, the base will have an installed capacity of 16 million kW, replacing the burning of about six million tonnes of coal and reducing carbon dioxide by about 16 million tonnes.
