China's Mingyang Smart Energy has unveiled plans to develop a massive 50 MW floating offshore wind turbine featuring a twin-head design similar to the company's Ocean-X platform. The capacity of the world's largest floating wind turbine would be nearly double that of the largest design currently available, according to Bloomberg.
Mingyang's OceanX, the world's largest single capacity floating wind platform launched from Guangzhou in 2024. Mingyang Smart Energy / LinkedIn China's largest private wind turbine manufacturer has just announced plans to develop the world's largest floating offshore wind turbine, which could redefine the future of deep-water wind power.
The announcement, made in October 2025, also highlights Mingyang's push to improve turbine capacities in a bid to reduce the cost of offshore wind energy and expand deployment into deeper waters. China is also home to the world's largest offshore wind turbine developed by Dongfang.
Developed by Mingyang Group, this floating wind turbine platform is arranged in a 'V' shape and carries two 8.3 MW offshore wind turbines. With a total capacity of 16.6 MW, it can be used in a wide range of sea areas around the world with water depth of more than 35 metres.
Mingyang Smart Energy has recently revealed its plans to develop an innovative 20 MW offshore wind turbine, further intensifying competition in the wind energy sector. The Chinese wind
