Employing system modeling, we reveal that imported solar panels have displaced 305 TWh of fossil fuel generation, avoided 178 million tons of CO 2, and prevented nearly 600 premature deaths from 2014 to 2022. The monetized value of these health and climate benefits has already offset about half of the module costs.
