In the high-renewable penetrated power grid, mobile energy-storage systems (MESSs) enhance power grids' security and economic operation by using their flexible spatiotemporal energy scheduling ability.
Several MESS demonstration projects around the world have validated its ability to support multiple aspects of the power grid. This subsection describes the scheduling of mobile energy storage in terms of theoretical approaches and demonstration applications, respectively.
Referred to as transportable energy storage systems, MESSs are generally vehicle-mounted container battery systems equipped with standard-ized physical interfaces to allow for plug-and-play operation. Their transportation could be powered by a diesel engine or the energy from the batteries themselves.
